Guitar and beginning banjo lessons by John Pollard
Purcell, Oklahoma Ages 10 and up
“Anyone can play an instrument if they want to bad enough!” I mean that. It is just like anything else in the world, the harder you work at it, the better you will get. The more you critically listen to music the more details you will hear in it. You can be trained and taught what to do and what to listen for and practice is the key.
Beginning guitar starts with chord basics, elementary music theory, and basic rhythm.
Exploring time signatures, transitional chords, and simple runs.
Syncopation.
Intermediate guitar starts with talent/skill assessment and understanding of above criteria.
Expanding runs, and rhythm syncopation, and the necessity of playing good solid rhythm.
Lead solo playing, songs TBA.
Beginning banjo starts with chord forms, elementary music theory, and right hand rolls.
Backup and vamping.
More rolls and simple songs.
And my favorite banjo concept by Earl Scruggs, “Sometimes the best banjo, is no banjo.”
Four half hour lessons with a workbook and practice song CD is $75.
